The Achiever Programme, our flagship initiative, connects high calibre accounting and finance students with recognised employers offering practical work experience across Australia and New Zealand. Successful applicants will complete a summer work experience placement with one of our participating employers, where they will develop industry relevant skills and knowledge.

How does the process work?

We use a rigorous screening process including cutting edge cognitive testing, a video interview and, dependent on region, either an assessment centre or phone interview to identify students who best meet the needs of our employer partners. Students are then short-listed based on their testing results and the requirements specified by employers. From here, employers are invited to interview the shortlisted candidates and make the final decision on who they would like to offer a placement to.

Why should your students apply?

The Achiever Programme is not only a great way to gain valuable work experience, it’s also an opportunity to gain exposure to the selection process they will likely undertake when applying for graduate positions.

Successful candidates will also benefit from:

  • gaining an insight into accounting and finance as a career across a broad range of sectors,
  • career advice from professionals in the field,
  • paid placements*,
  • making important industry contacts, and
  • applying class room theory in a practical context and soft skills development.

What are the expected learning outcomes for your students?

Employers are expected to provide their intern/s with tasks, activities and experiences aimed at delivering the following learning outcomes:

  • Clear understanding of basic accounting tasks in a professional environment.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills in a professional context.
  • Understanding of the type of work undertaken at a senior level.
  • Intern develops an appreciation for the administrative aspect of running a business.
  • Intern gains an appreciation for the variety of work available within the accounting profession.

Timing and duration of placements

Achiever placements will range from 3 – 12 weeks in duration over the summer holiday period (November 2018 – March 2019).
